Abstract

In the context of this investigation, the chemistry text books which had prepared according
to the new curriculum that developed by the ministry of education in 2013 are analyzed in
terms of the concept of nature of science. Totaly seven chemistry textbooks which are
belonging to various publishers are analyzed in the scope of this investigation. These books
are 9th, 10th and 11th grade chemistry textbooks that accepted to be used in all high schools
in 2013-2014, 2014-2015, 2015-2016 academic year in Türkiye. In the data collection phase of
this study, the researcher and the other 2 encoder, applied the method of coding independently on textbooks together with the help of a data collection tool. The level of
agreement between coders participating in the survey, is calculated using Cohen's kappa and
Krippendorf alpha testing and it has been determined a fairly high level as a compromise
between encoders. In terms of the analysis of data which had obtained from this study, firstly
it is understand that, the knowledge dimension of NOS has the least representative between
all dimension of NOS in all Chemistry 9 text books. Secondly, the dimension of STS (ScienceTechnology-Society)
of NOS has low representative level than the other dimensions of NOS.
According to this invesitigation’s results it is also examined that all of the Chemistry 10 text
books has some commonalities. First of all it is understand that, the knowledge dimension of
NOS has the least representative level between all dimension of NOS in all Chemistry 10 text
books. Secondly the thinking dimension of NOS has low representative level than the other
dimensions of NOS like research and STS. According to the results of this investigation the
STS and Knowledge dimension of NOS has the least representative between all dimension of
NOS in Chemistry 11 text book. According to this research’s results, the proportion of
representative level of the knowledge dimension in all chemistry high school text books, to
the representative level of other dimensions in all chemistry high school text books is
calculated as less than % 12. According to this research’s results, most of the high school
chemistry text books which was analyzed in this study have less representative levels about
knowledge dimension of NOS by the other dimensions. According to this research’s results,
more than half of the high school chemistry text books that examined in this study, it is
calculated that the STS dimension of NOS have less than % 15 representative level. In all of
the reviewed books, the statements that is related with the “research”dimension of NOS in
text books is calculated as high-level degree (about the size over 30 %) in this reserch. Finally
it has to expressed that the expressions in the text books that are related with NOS in all
Chemistry text books has unbalanced distribution. According to the results of this
investigation, it has to expressed that, all of the chemistry text books have less repsesentative
levels by the knowledge dimension of NOS.

Abstract

Bu araştırmada, MEB tarafından 2013 yılında geliştirilen kimya dersi öğretim programına göre hazırlanmış ve ders kitabı olarak kabul edilmiş olan 7 adet kimya ders kitabının, bilimin doğasına ilişkin boyutlar açısından temsil edilme düzeyleri, içerik analizi yöntemi kullanılarak belirlenmiştir. İncelenen kitaplar, 2013-2014, 2014-2015 ve 2015-2016 eğitim-öğretim yıllarında ülkemiz genelindeki tüm ortaöğretim kurumlarında ders kitabı olarak okutulması kabul edilen 9, 10 ve 11. sınıf kimya ders kitaplarıdır. Bu araştırmanın veri toplama aşamasında, araştırmacının da içinde bulunduğu 3 kodlayıcı, Lee (2007)’den uyarlanan veri toplama aracı yardımıyla, bağımsız olarak ders kitapları üzerinde kodlama yöntemini uygulamışlardır. Araştırmaya katılan kodlayıcılar arasındaki uyuşma düzeyi, Cohen’in kappa testi sonuçlarına göre ,71 ile 1,0 aralığındaki değerlere ve Krippendorf’un alpha testi sonuçlarına göre ise ,81 ile 1,0 aralığındaki değerlere karşılık geldiği hesaplanmıştır. Bu istatistikler, kodlayıcılar arasındaki uyuşmanın yüksek düzeyde olduğu sonucunu göstermektedir. Elde edilen verilerin analizi sonucunda, araştırma kapsamında incelenen Kimya 9 ders kitaplarının her üçünde ortak olan bazı özellikler bulunmuştur. İlk olarak kitaplarda bilimin doğasına ilişkin veri toplama aracındaki bilgi boyutuyla ilgili ifadelere, diğer boyutlara göre çok düşük düzeyde yer verildiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Bilimin doğasına ilişkin veri toplama aracında ifade edilen bilgi boyutu; bilimsel olay, kavram, kanun, prensip, hipotez, teori ve model gibi bilimsel süreçlelerle ilgili kavramların ne olduğuna, aralarındaki ilişkilere ve bilimsel bilginin değişebilen doğasına işaret etmektedir. İkinci olarak, bilimin doğasına ilişkin veri toplama aracında ifade edilen BTTÇ boyutuyla ilgili ifadelere, araştırma ve düşündürme boyutlarıyla ilgili ifadelere göre daha düşük düzeyde yer verildiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Bilimin doğasının BTTÇ boyutu bilim ve teknolojinin ne olduğuna, bilimin toplum ve çevre ile olan ilişkilerine ve bilim etiğine işaret etmektedir. Kimya 10 ders kitaplarının her üçünde de bilimin doğasına ilişkin, “bilgi” boyutuyla ilgili ifadelere, diğer boyutlarla ilgili ifadelere göre çok düşük düzeyde yer verildiği görülmektedir. Kimya 11 ders kitabında, bilimin doğasına ilişkin BTTÇ ve bilgi boyutları ile ilgili ifadelere diğer boyutlarla ilgili ifadelere göre çok düşük düzeyde yer verildiği görülmektedir. İncelenen kitapların çoğunda, bilimin doğasına ilişkin “bilgi” boyutuyla ilgili ifadelere, diğer boyutlara göre en az düzeyde yer verildiği görülmektedir. Kitapların tamamında, bilimin doğasına ilişkin “bilgi” boyutuyla ilgili ifadelere çok düşük düzeyde (% 12’nin altında) yer verildiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. İncelenen kitapların yarısından fazlasında, bilimin doğasına ilişkin “BTTÇ” boyutuyla ilgili ifadelere, diğer boyutlara göre çok düşük düzeyde (% 15 ve altında) yer verildiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. İncelenen kitapların tamamında bilimin doğasına ilişkin “araştırma” boyutuyla ilgili ifadelere yüksek düzeyde (% 30’un üzerinde) yer verildiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Bu sonuçlar değerlendirildiğinde incelenmiş olan kitapların tamamının, bilimin doğasının boyutlarını temsil etme durumları açısından, dengesiz bir dağılım sergilemekte oldukları görülmektedir.
