Investigation of Life Studies Course in Terms of Preparation-Support Function for Science and Social Studies Courses
Abstract
In this research, it is aimed to examine the life studies course in terms of preparation and support for science and social studies courses. In the research, general survey model and correlational model were used within the scope of quantitative research method. The universe of the research is classroom teachers. The universe of the study is the classroom teachers working in Iğdır. Research data were collected with the Personal Information Form (PIF) and Life Studies Course-Preparation-Support Functioning Scale (L-PSF) developed by the researchers. Standard deviation and mean from descriptive statistics were used to determine the level of participants' evaluation of the life studies course in terms of preparation-support function, and standard multiple regression analysis was used to determine the variables that predict the participants' views on this subject. According to the results obtained from this research, primary school teachers agree that the life studies course can fulfill the function of preparation for the elements of the social studies course curriculum and affective preparation for the social studies course. Independent classroom teaching, students' academic achievements, schools' social and educational opportunities, and teachers' levels of reviewing curriculum can significantly predict classroom teachers' views on this subject.
