Bibliometric Analysis of Educational Research Articles Published in the Field of History Education Based on the Web of Science Database

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine scientific articles on history education in terms of bibliometric indicators. In the research, the bibliometric method was used within the scope of quantitative methodology. The scanning range of bibliometric data taken from the WoS database produced by Clarivate Analytics covers the dates between 1975-21 April 2020. As a result of the analyses, it was revealed that 852 of the 65.305.995 studies registered in the WoS database between 1975-2020 were studies related to history education. It is also observed that 390 (45.77%) of these records are in the education/educational research category. It was concluded that the most common type of publication related to the history education was the articles with a total number of 334. It is seen that approximately 201 of the published articles have been published between 2016 and April 2020. In the analysis, it was seen that there are 424 different authors contributing to the related field. It was determined that 734 different keywords were used in the analyzed articles and that the most effective journal is the "Journal of Curriculum Studies". In addition, it has been observed that researchers from 38 different countries have published articles on the field, and the most active country is the United States of America. This country is followed by Britain, Spain, and Canada. Turkey is ranked 7 out of countries 38 with 17 publications and this shows that serious publications are made this field.

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı Tarih Eğitimi ile ilgili yapılmış olan bilimsel makalelerin bibliyometrik göstergeler açısından incelemektir. Çalışmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden biri olan betimsel tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Bibliyometrik veriler Clarivate Analytics tarafından üretilen WoS veri tabanından alınmıştır ve tarama aralığı 1975-21 Nisan 2020 tarihleri arasını kapsamaktadır. Çalışmada bibliyometrik analiz tekniği uygulanmıştır. Yapılan analizlerde 1975-Nisan 2020 yılları arasında WoS veri tabanında kayıtlı 65.305.995 çalışmadan 852’sinin Tarih Eğitimi ile ilgili çalışmalar olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu kayıtlardan 390 (%45,77) tanesinin eğitim/eğitim araştırmaları kategorisinde yer aldığı görülmüştür. Yapılan analizlerde Tarih Eğitimi ile ilgili en çok karşılaşılan yayın türünün 334 çalışma ile makale olduğu görülmüştür. Bununla birlikte yayımlanan makalelerin yaklaşık 201 (%60,17) tanesinin 2016-Nisan 2020 yılları arasında yayımlandığı belirlenmiştir. Bu oran Tarih Eğitimi ile ilgili eğitim araştırmalarının son yıllarda artma trendinde olduğunu göstermektedir. Yine yapılan analizlerde alana katkı sağlayan 424 farklı yazar olduğu görülmüştür. 334 makalede toplam 734 farklı anahtar kelime kullanıldığı ve en etkin derginin “Journal of Curriculum Studies” dergisi olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca 38 farklı ülkeden araştırmacıların alana katkı sağlayan makaleler yayımladıkları görülmüştür. Bu kapsamda en aktif ülkenin Amerika Birleşik Devletleri olduğu, bunu sırasıyla İngiltere, İspanya ve Kanada’nın izlediği görülmüştür. Türkiye’nin 17 makale ile 7. sırada yer alması bu alanla ilgili ciddi çalışmalar yapıldığını göstermektedir.
