Examining the Challenges of International University Students during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine the challenges experienced by international university students during the pandemic period. The phenomenological model was used in the research. The participants of the research are 15 international university students in Turkey. The data of the research were obtained with a semi-structured interview. The data were analyzed by content analysis method. Students experienced problems in the fields of education and training, psychological life and social relations. Students applied to different social support resources to cope with the difficulties they experienced. The findings were discussed in the light of the literature and, several suggestions were made.

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı, uluslararası üniversite öğrencilerinin pandemi döneminde yaşadıkları zorlukların incelenmesidir. Araştırmada, nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden fenomonolojik model kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın katılımcılarını, Türkiye’deki 15 uluslararası üniversite öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın verileri, yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu ile elde edilmiştir. Veriler içerik analizi yöntemi ile analiz edilmiştir. Öğrenciler eğitim ve öğretim, psikolojik yaşam, sosyal ilişkiler alanlarında sorunlar yaşamışlardır. Öğrenciler yaşadıkları zorluklarla başa çıkmada farklı sosyal destek kaynaklarına başvurmuşlardır. Araştırmadan elde edilen sonuçlar alanyazın ışığında tartışılmış ve çeşitli önerilerde bulunulmuştur.
