The Impact of Perceived Organizational Support on Work Engagement in Schools

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationship between perceived organizational support and work engagement in schools and to determine whether teachers’ perceptions differed significantly according to gender, school level, teaching field, and professional seniority. The study was conducted with 401 teachers working in the Palandöken district of Erzurum during the 2023/2024 academic year. Participants were selected through simple random sampling. The study employed a correlational survey design. Data were collected using the Perceived Organizational Support Scale and the Work Engagement Scale. The data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0. Frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation values were calculated, and independent samples t-tests, one-way analysis of variance, correlation analysis, and regression analysis were performed. The results showed that teachers’ levels of perceived organizational support and work engagement were high. Teachers’ perceptions of perceived organizational support and work engagement were examined according to gender, school level, teaching field, and professional seniority; however, no significant differences were found across these variables. A moderate, positive, and significant relationship was found between perceived organizational support and work engagement. In addition, perceived organizational support was found to be a significant predictor of work engagement.
