Öğretmen Adaylarının Alan Bilgisinin Öğrenci Hataları Bağlamında Değerlendirilmesi: Geometri ve Ölçme

Abstract

Bir öğretmenin öğretim yapacağı her bir konu için derinlemesine bilgi sahibi olması doğrudan alan bilgisi ile ilişkilidir. Alan bilgisi, öğrencilerin yaptığı hataları fark edebilme ve açıklayabilme bileşenini içeren bir kapsama sahiptir. Bu bağlamda çalışmanın amacı, öğretmen adaylarının geometri ve ölçme öğrenme alanına yönelik alan bilgisini öğrenci hataları bağlamında incelemektir. Çalışmada durum çalışması yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Çalışmanın katılımcıları ise Geometri ve Ölçme Öğretimi dersini alan 86 ilköğretim matematik öğretmen adaylarıdır. Çalışmanın veri toplama aracı, geometri ve ölçme alanına yönelik öğrenci hatalarını içeren 7 senaryo tipi sorudan oluşmaktadır. Senaryo tipi sorular; açı ölçüsü, çevre uzunluğu, ölçü birimleri, yansıma, benzerlik, dörtgenlerin hiyerarşisi, geometrik cisimler olmak üzere öğrencilerin sıklıkla hataya düştükleri kavramlar üzerine inşa edilmiştir. Elde edilen veriler; hatayı belirleme, hataya yönelik gerekçe sunma ve hatayı düzeltme temaları bağlamında analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmanın sonucunda, öğretmen adaylarının hatayı belirleme ve hatayı düzeltme temalarında oldukça yüksek başarı gösterdikleri öğrenci hatalarına yönelik gerekçe sunma noktasında ise istenen başarıyı gösteremedikleri görülmüştür. Bu doğrultuda lisans eğitiminde yer alan öğretim derslerinin kapsamına öğrenci hatalarını içeren etkinliklerin dahil edilmesi ve bu etkinliklerde özellikle öğrenci hatalarının altında yatan sebeplerine odaklı tartışmaların gerçekleştirilmesi önerilebilir.

Abstract

Having in-depth knowledge for each subject of a teacher is directly related to the teacher's content knowledge. Content knowledge includes the components of being able to recognize and explain the students’ errors. The purpose of the study is to examine prospective teachers' content knowledge about geometry and measurement learning in terms of student errors. Case study method was used in the study. The participants of the study are 86 prospective primary mathematics teachers who took the Geometry and Measurement Teaching course. The data collection tool of the study consists of 7 scenario type questions, which include student errors in geometry and measurement learning. Scenario type questions were designed on the concepts that students often make mistakes. These concepts are angle measure, perimeter, the units of measurement, reflective symmetry, similarity, hierarchy of quadrilaterals, geometric solids. The data were analyzed in the context of the themes as identifying the error, providing the justification for the error, and correcting the error. As a result of the study, it was seen that the prospective teachers showed very high success in the themes of identifying the error and correcting the error. Prospective teachers could not show the desired success in providing the justification for the students’ error. In this regard, it can be suggested to design activities that include student errors in teaching courses of undergraduate education. In these activities, discussions on providing the justification for the student error can be made.
