Interpersonal Behaviours Questionnaire in Physical Education: Turkish Adaptation Validity and Reliability Study
Abstract
This study aimed to adapt the Interpersonal Behaviours Questionnaire in Physical Education into Turkish and to conduct a validity and reliability study. The scale developed by Burgueno and Medina-Casaubon (2021) consisted of a total of six sub-dimensions, three supportive and three obstructive dimensions, and 24 items. The 12-item structure of the supportive dimensions was adapted according to the criteria of Hambleton and Patsula (1999). The study was conducted cross-sectionally in time dimension with the survey model, one of the quantitative research approaches. The study group consisted of 476 secondary and high school students determined using criterion sampling. In the study, the psychometric properties of the measurement tool were examined by conducting analyses on construct validity, convergent and divergent validity and reliability. With the analysis of the data obtained from the current study, the fit indices related to the explanatory model and the fit indices related to the errors showed that the structure defined at two levels had a high level of model-data fit. Besides, Cronbach Alpha and McDonalds Omega coefficients related to the reliability of the measurement results showed that the measurement results were highly reliable (First level: Autonomy α =.90 and ω = .90; Competence α = .90 and ω = .91, Relatedness α = .90 and ω = .91; Second level: Supportive α =.96 and ω = .97). The study concluded that the scale consisting of 12 items and three sub-dimensions at the first level and one dimension at the second level was a valid and reliable measurement tool.
