Investigation of Postgraduate Students' Self-Efficacy Beliefs about Scientific Research in Terms of Various Variables

Abstract

The study aims to develop a valid and reliable questionnaire to assess postgraduate students' self-efficacy beliefs about scientific research. In addition, it aimed to examine self-efficacy beliefs of postgraduate students about scientific research in terms of various variables. In this study, quantitative research methods were used and the related research was carried out according to the survey method. The sample of the research consists of 352 postgraduate students continuing their education at various universities in Turkey. In the study, a self-efficacy questionnaire for scientific research, which was developed by the researcher, was used as the data collection tool. The data obtained from the questionnaire were analysed with the chi-square analysis technique. According to the findings obtained as a result of the analysis, it was determined that the self-efficacy beliefs of the postgraduate students regarding scientific research were generally high. In addition, it was determined that students' self-efficacy beliefs about conducting scientific research differed significantly in terms of some questionnaire items according to postgraduate level, publishing articles, taking courses, and professional status. However, as a result of the analyses conducted with the variables of publishing articles and taking the research methods course, it was found that there was a significant difference in survey items than the others.

Lisansüstü Öğrencilerin Bilimsel Araştırmaya İlişkin Öz Yeterlik İnançlarının Çeşitli Değişkenler Açısından İncelenmesi

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı, bilimsel araştırmaya ilişkin lisansüstü öğrencilerinin öz yeterlik inançlarını belirlemek amacıyla geçerli ve güvenilir bir anket geliştirmektir. Ayrıca araştırmada lisansüstü öğrencilerin bilimsel araştırmaya yönelik öz yeterlik inançlarının çeşitli değişkenler açısından incelenmesi hedeflenmektedir. Bu araştırmada, nicel araştırma yöntemleri temel alınmış ve ilgili araştırma tarama yöntemine göre yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın örneklemi, Türkiye’deki çeşitli üniversitelerde öğrenimini devam ettiren 352 lisansüstü öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Çalışmada veri toplama aracı olarak araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen bilimsel araştırmaya ilişkin öz yeterlik anketi kullanılmıştır. Anketten elde edilen veriler, ki-kare analiz tekniğiyle çözümlenmiştir. Analizler sonucunda elde edilen bulgulara göre lisansüstü öğrencilerin bilimsel araştırmaya ilişkin öz yeterlik inançlarının genellikle yüksek olduğu saptanmıştır. Ayrıca lisansüstü düzeyine, makale yayınlama, ders alma ve mesleki durumlarına göre öğrencilerin bilimsel araştırma yapmaya ilişkin öz yeterlik inançlarının bazı anket maddeleri açısından anlamlı farklılık oluşturduğu belirlenmiştir. Ancak makale yayınlama ve araştırma yöntemleri dersini alma değişkenleriyle gerçekleştirilen analizler sonucunda diğerlerine nazaran daha fazla anket maddesinde anlamlı farklılık olduğu tespit edilmiştir.
